Mycomaterials urino-fertlisers, same balltle

The group of Belgian architects Bento, co-curators with the philosopher Vinciane Despret of the Invo project for the Belgian Pavilion at the last Venice Biennale, are working on the manufacture of mycomaterials for construction using mushroom mycelium.

In its latest issue, entitled Futurofolies, the anthropology and human sciences magazine Terrain looks at the strategy adopted by Bento to meet the technical challenges of their proposals, and above all the negative representations associated with the use of materials made from fungi.

To achieve this, they have adopted a communication strategy that highlights the socio-political advantages and ecological benefits of this new material.

This approach is reminiscent of the exemplary work carried out by LEESU and Ocapi to change perceptions of the selective collection of urine and its recovery in the form of urino-fertiliser.
